Create a Markets Human Design Environment in your Home Gym
If you have a designated space in your home where you work on your fitness — or if you’re wanting to carve out more space for this area in your life, this article is for you.
Depending on your body’s needs and your personal interests, there may be specific tools or workouts you like to use and participate in. While I can’t jump into your life to cover all those specifics (are you an avid rock climber? Love rowing? Peloton user?), these ideas are meant to get you thinking differently about the actual space you’re working out in.
Below, you’ll find ways to support your body based on its Environment Variable and how to set up the physical space you work out in based on the room you have available.
I repeat some of these themes across different Environments, but want to encourage you to think about your space in a way that brings in principles from your Human Design Environment. Let’s take a look at how to set up your DREAM Home Gym for your Human Design Environment:
Customize the space to your interest
Is rowing calling you? A Bowflex or Peloton? A golf simulator? Whatever your tool of choice is, build the space around that. You are only going to use what you want to use or are into for a time, so it’s best to set yourself up with where your interest is. You may need a space that is modular or can accommodate a change in interest in the future.
Personalized colour scheme
In Human Design Variable studies — my favourite area is Colours and Tones. In this case — the literal use of your favourite colours can make the space call to you and feel really good. Your favourites are important to you, but sometimes we can’t afford or accommodate a big piece of equipment. So colourizing the space is an affordable alternative. Pink boxing gloves! Pink water bottle!
Cute outfits!
I know this isn’t technically about the room itself — but a great way to support yourself in actually USING your equipment or being in the home gym space is to have fun fashion to wear when you’re there. I’m SO serious. A cute workout outfit that you only have to wear when you work out will literally encourage you to work out so you can wear it. But you have to like it! I know this sounds strange lol, but just try it! The right outfit in the right setting?! Yes please.
Massage station
Have an area for support tools like foam rollers, a bolster, Theragun or even a full-blown massage station. Your body has some sensitivities, and there may be times when you push it too far. Having remedy items handy will help you feel more prepared and safe in the space.
Fun free weights
This is a great essential for any home gym — how can your free weights be cute or according to your preferences? Do you like pink? Do you want them to be an interesting shape? Are you just concerned with price and getting a good deal? Consider what would be fun for you to lift, and use, and look at — and most importantly, ensure they have their own little spot in your space. Everything needs its own spot. ;)
Create corners
This is great if you don’t have a main tool or item you’re using. Instead, experiment with setting up little areas, nooks, or zones each with a different item or focus. Maybe you stretch in one corner. Maybe another corner you have your free weight section. Maybe another corner has mirrors and a balance pole — custom tailor this to your needs in case you are someone who likes to cycle through something.
Change it up sometimes
During different seasons of your life, you’ll be drawn to different things. If you are over something, you may want to get it out of your space. If you still like it and are using it periodically — great — but if you tried something and didn’t like it, or the spark has faded and there is no interest to return, consider selling or storing your items — but physically remove them from the space if you’re able.
Consider a Gym Plant
This can be as low maintenance as needed, but having a plant in the area helps you use the space. It can also benefit you by showing changes in the plant’s growth patterns — similar to the growth and change that can happen when taking care of yourself but can be hard to notice sometimes in the day-to-day. Plants can also help keep a space fresh, with some varieties removing toxins in the air.
