How to set up your cooking space for a Markets Human Design Environment

When I say cooking space, I’m talking about the literal kitchen in your home. But since the third Human Design Environment is also called Kitchens, I didn’t want to create something that read like “Set up your Kitchen for a Kitchen” — kind of thing.

When it comes to setting up the kitchen space in your home, you may not have the ability to so easily change up some of the room’s elements, like appliances, counters, etc.

In this series, I’m sharing ways to work with the space available to you, while keeping your Environment in mind. I’ll also share some ideal setups for the rare opportunity you may get to highly customize a space to suit you!

Invest in great utensils

Markets People always have the best tools, whether that’s cool pens, the latest chemex or nespresso, or golden spatulas and spoons. Whatever you’re working with in your cooking space, ensure you’ve invested in good quality.

Try handmade tiles

A tile backsplash is a great way to add personality and customization to a space. And while not every Markets person may want to opt for a handmade tile, this extra little touch can create some of the most original customization possible. It’s most important to select something according to your specific tastes and preferences, but don’t be afraid to have fun with it if you get the chance to customize your space!

Use your favourite colours and elements

Are you a grey girl? Does everything need to be bright white? Are you in your all-pink-everything era? Surround the cooking space with your favourite colours and elements. If you’re not able to customize your space, ensure your favourite tools, decorations and custom appliances are strewn throughout the space. Sprinkle your personality in every nook and cranny.

Add something custom to the space

Whether you own or rent, create some personal detail in the space where you can. Maybe you paint it a very YOU colour; maybe you lighten the cabinets, or swap the pendant lights — maybe you add in a SMEG fridge, toaster, or mixer, you fancy thing. Maybe you simply line the drawers and cabinets with a fun, bright, unexpected colour or print? Find what’s available to customize and go for it.

Seasonal hand towels

Is it spooky season? Winter season? Or has Spring arrived? Consider how you can add personality to your hand towels and swap them out with the season. Sometimes this can mean a fun print, or maybe you just bring out the deep rust and blush towels when Autumn arrives. Maybe the red comes out in Winter!

Have seasonal herbs available

Maybe you’re growing mint in summer, or breaking out the cinnamon sticks in the cooler months! If you like to dry your herbs or grow them fresh, experiment with small amounts of seasonal herbs at a time, or store your herbs in organized containers.

Start a Collection

Is it handmade coffee mugs? Tiny spoons? A pack of cards from everywhere you’ve visited? Find your collection and either organize or display it somehow in your kitchen.
