How to set up a Markets Dining Space

The Kitchen and Dining Room are often the heart of the home, and an area when you are likely to spend a fair bit of time.

Your Environment is very important when it comes to your nourishment and the things you consume, and setting up your body so it resonates with the space around it will prime your body for high quality nourishment.

If we’re not in an environment that resonates with us, there is likely nothing available to ingest and consume. While this extends beyond just what we put in our mouth, it also definitely includes what we eat.

Remember this is not an exhaustive list of every way you could set up your dining space — but a collection of ideas to get you thinking differently about your space. See how many of these you’re already doing!

Stylize as much as possible

Whatever space is available to you, how can you stylize the space to meet your taste as much as possible? Whether you own or rent, customize the space as much as possible through paint, cute tea towels, your favourite plants, patterns or even removing the doors to cabinets to reveal what’s inside.

Show off your items

Maybe you have cute handmade plates, or a thrifted coffee cup collection made of Japanese stoneware. Experiment with displaying your collections in creative ways through open or glass cabinetry, countertop vignettes, or something else.

Display fresh fruit or vegetables

Whether that’s a family fruit bowl on the dining table or a glass vase full of lemons or limes, consider having fresh items available in sight, and replace them should they perish.

Consider mismatched materials

Whether each chair at your dining table is unique and different from the next, or whether you mix materials with a wood or glass dining table, cement countertop, and steel chairs, consider surrounding yourself with your favourite materials — and don’t be afraid to mismatch items to build in character!

Switch out seasonal accents

Not every dining space can be rearranged as easily as a bedroom or living space, so consider how your decor objects may be able to bring in new energy each season by rotating or switching things out depending on the season. Try things like table or floor runners, accent pillows for chairs, artwork or vases.

Stock the pantry with your favourite treats

Whatever you’re craving or loving each season, consider stocking up so your favourites are always available for that season.

Deep clean as much as necessary

Like other areas of the home, it’s essential to keep the space energetically fresh each season. Consider a seasonal ritual of emptying drawers and cupboards — ensuring you get all those crumbs that found their way there — rearranging items, tossing expired food, and cleaning out the fridge.

Try reupholstering or painting items

When one of your items has lost its lustre or becomes damaged but still holds sentimental value (or is your favourite) consider upgrading the item by reupholstering it if possible, painting it if possible, sanding it down and restaining it if possible, or something else depending on the item.
