How to set up a Markets Altar & Ceremony Space

What is a ceremony space? Considering whether you’re a Caves, Markets, Kitchens, Mountains, Valleys, or Shores Environment, can help you dedicate a space with playful intention, and conscious awareness.

Having a spot in your home that allows you to gather your spirits and focus your energy is often called an altar, but these spaces for your private rituals can be called anything your heart desires.

Maybe your ceremony space is your bedside table. Maybe it’s the study. Maybe it’s your yoga room, or the closet you tuck your ritual tools away in.

Try these things to connect with your Markets Environment, and build a vibey ceremony site that resonates with you.

Work with Plant Material

Whether you are ingesting, burning, smoking or looking at your plant material (like a bouquet), consider the way you use it and select it accordingly. Consider the container you want them kept in if necessary, and keep it in a vessel that can stay on your altar. As you activate your altar or participate in ritual, dedicate your Plant Material to whatever you are manifesting.

Have an Altar Plant

Research the energy of the Botanical you want to work with, and keep it in its natural state on your altar to call in more of that energy to you. “Natural State” means to not clip the plant’s stems or blooms and put them in a vessel, but to keep its roots in tact, allowing you to grow and care for the plant in your ritual space. For example, instead of a bouquet of roses, a small potted rose plant will allow the roses to grow and bloom on their time. This will bring you back to your ceremony space regularly, keeping you accountable with the wellness of your plant (which will be very connected to you). This will keep your space fresh, and help you stay in touch with the Market. Watching this plant change and grow will also provide you with nourishment. Select your Botanical intentionally, and be sure not to let it die. This will be connected to your manifestations!

Select an Amulet

Whatever your Marketplace, whether you work in stocks, the beauty industry, with baked good or something else, intentionally select an amulet or relic that represents this part of your life. Set it out on your altar as an item of worship to bring more devotion to your trade and craft.

Get picky with your location

Whether you want your altar set out all the time on your fireplace mantle, or whether you want a credenza and meditation pillow set out in your office, give some thought to what space feels the best for you to house your ceremony space.

Consider a portable toolkit

Depending on how your life shakes out, having access to a portable toolkit can help you feel regulated and at ease in your body. For example, if you travel a lot, having a small bag with a divination tool, chargeable crystal, incense, matches and journal, can help bring you back into your body no matter where you are. By having access to your favourite things wherever you are, you’ll be able to settle your spirits and feel more comfortable. Consider what tools you would want to include in your portable altar.

Ritual idea: freshness check

Once a week, once a month, once a season — whatever the frequency that feels good for you — take a moment with your rituals to consider if they’re feeling nourishing or if they have tipped into feeling obligatory. As you move through different chapters of your life, what resonates with you may change significantly. Your only responsibility is to evaluate if those rituals are feeling expansive or depleting. Be honest with yourself, and move away from the rituals that feel stale.

Build the classic Markets altar

To connect deeply with the freshness in your environment, set out a traditional altar by finding a small table top in a private corner and place important items on it. Seek inspiration from the literal market, and place seasonal items and amulets on the surface. Consider what season you are in on Earth, and what season of life you are in personally. Select items in accordance with these parts of your reality, such as fresh blooms, in-season fruits, your favourite pen and paper, a special trinket, or letter from a loved one. Be sure to keep your altar fresh and tidy, and consider whether you want to leave it up at all times (which will require ritualistic care as you don’t want the energy to grow stagnant), or whether you want to disassemble and reassemble your altar for times of specific ritual. Keep a divination tool ready for use on the altar, such as oracle or tarot cards, lithomancy kits, tea leaves, or a crystal ball. Enjoy your ceremony.
