Create a Kitchens Human Design Environment in your Home Gym

If you have a designated space in your home where you work on your fitness — or if you’re wanting to carve out more space for this area in your life, this article is for you.

Depending on your body’s needs and your personal interests, there may be specific tools or workouts you like to use and participate in. While I can’t jump into your life to cover all those specifics (are you an avid rock climber? Love rowing? Peloton user?), these ideas are meant to get you thinking differently about the actual space you’re working out in.

Below, you’ll find ways to support your body based on its Environment Variable and how to set up the physical space you work out in based on the room you have available.

I repeat some of these themes across different Environments, but want to encourage you to think about your space in a way that brings in principles from your Human Design Environment. Let’s take a look at how to set up your DREAM Home Gym for your Human Design Environment:

Organize your space

Look, it’s going to become a mess in here. As you use your space, it’s natural for this to occur. Organizing your space into zones that suit you isn’t just about having something neat and tidy — rather, it’s about designing a space that really works for you and organizing the space in a way that works for YOU. It’s very personal. There is a method to your madness!

Water station

Imagine a drink fridge!? Whether you have reverse osmosis, a mini fridge, a built-in bar, or a place to store your bottled waters — prioritize hydration in your space if you’re able to. You don’t have to go crazy here either — sometimes it’s as simple as bringing water with you into the space when you’re using it. Hydrating is a great reminder to switch up the energy behind whatever you are doing in your workout. This switch-up is helpful for Kitchens people. You resonate with a magical alchemy!

Center the room

How can you bring the room together? Sometimes creating a central focal point can gather the energy into the middle of the space. Is your Peloton front and center? Do you have a beautiful sitting area at the heart? Is a Bowflex in the middle of the space? Consider what you want your workout to be centered on and consider how you can physically do that in the space as well. You can build out the room from the center (or “main”) focal point!

Consider a TV for stimulation

Having some type of television or screen can be helpful for you in your home gym by creating stimulation around you. Perhaps you play music on it — remember music videos?! — maybe you follow a workout tutorial or instruction on it — maybe you like to catch up on Ego Manifestor Dr. Gregory House in the HOUSE medical series. ;) If this feels right for you, play with it and see how you perform!

Open floor plan

I know we’re playing with whatever space is available to you — but an open floor plan is ideal — a room where you can see everything in it. There are no hidden angles or corners. There are no additional rooms within the rooms. It’s an open space with everything you like, want to try, or are currently using, available to you. Your Peloton, and your free weights, and your yoga station; they’re all braided together.

Versatile machines

If you decide to invest in a trendy machine (I think this is a great practice for you if it makes sense for your budget), selecting machines with versatility and things to discover and play with will really support your mutative nature that loves to experiment, try things, and grow. You need to switch it up sometimes, and if your equipment supports you in doing that — all the better!

Workout buddy!

Having someone to use the space with is really fun. A running buddy, a workout buddy, a gym buddy, even a personal trainer — having someone else’s energy might be a reason you could be very drawn to GOING to a space to workout rather than building a home gym. If you live with someone, encourage them to use the space with you. If you prefer a solitary practice, do you.

Center Mat

The stretching station! The stretch zone! Consider creating a relief space in the heart of your gym, an area that draws you to ritualize and enjoy the wind-down part of your practice. Can you use fun flooring or a rug in the center of your space, or can you gather all your pillows and mats in this area? You may even enjoy doing your entire yoga practice in the center of the room.
