How to set up a Caves Dining Space

The Kitchen and Dining Room are often the heart of the home, and an area when you are likely to spend a fair bit of time.

Your Environment is very important when it comes to your nourishment and the things you consume, and setting up your body so it resonates with the space around it will prime your body for high quality nourishment.

If we’re not in an environment that resonates with us, there is likely nothing available to ingest and consume. While this extends beyond just what we put in our mouth, it also definitely includes what we eat.

Remember this is not an exhaustive list of every way you could set up your dining space — but a collection of ideas to get you thinking differently about your space. See how many of these you’re already doing!

Create a breakfast nook

A little dining area that tucks in to a corner or has the vibe of a little booth will feel so fun for a Caves Person. Consider a table with seating around three sides so you have to scoot to get in.

Try a galley kitchen

Galley kitchens do not have an island or a peninsula per se but have two distinct sides. Typically, these spaces usually don’t allow for a “walk-thru” style kitchen, giving a clear back wall for the Caves Person to anchor to.

Bring in natural materials

Consider bringing in elements that retain some of the Earth’s signature rather than an excess of artificial or man-made materials. For example, try a statement stone, granite, or quartz countertop, or hand made clay tiles for your backsplash.

Consider your dining chairs

Whether that’s a dining chair, barstool or counter stool, consider selecting items with a strong and sturdy back, rather than backless or flimsy seating options. It’s important to consider your back as a Caves Person. How might you get creative with that?

Consider seating arrangements

If there is an option for you to have your back to a wall rather than have your back exposed to the wider space while you dine, select the first option. While not every spot needs to protect the back of the diner, ensure that option is available for caves people.

Get creative with your lighting

Are you able to have dimmers in your dining and kitchen space? Consider under cabinet lighting, or overhead lighting that can dim, to create the right kind of low light Cavey energy while you dine. Sometimes it can feel too intense to have a super bright overhead dining light.

Create archways

If you have the opportunity to customize or stylize the entrance to your dining space, consider creating an archway or an arched entrance to the space, recreating the feel of walking into the mouth of a cave. Rounded archways are great for the entire home!

Consider your small appliances

What small appliances do you regularly use based on your lifestyle? If you’re an avid coffee drinker, can you create a coffee nook or appliance garage in your space? If you’re a tea drinker, can you have a stocked tea drawer, or incorporate your items into the decor? Maybe you’re obsessed with your SMEG toaster — can it have its own home?
