Create a Mountains Human Design Environment in your Home Gym

If you have a designated space in your home where you work on your fitness — or if you’re wanting to carve out more space for this area in your life, this article is for you.

Depending on your body’s needs and your personal interests, there may be specific tools or workouts you like to use and participate in. While I can’t jump into your life to cover all those specifics (are you an avid rock climber? Love rowing? Peloton user?), these ideas are meant to get you thinking differently about the actual space you’re working out in.

Below, you’ll find ways to support your body based on its Environment Variable and how to set up the physical space you work out in based on the room you have available.

I repeat some of these themes across different Environments, but want to encourage you to think about your space in a way that brings in principles from your Human Design Environment. Let’s take a look at how to set up your DREAM Home Gym for your Human Design Environment:

Create a little studio feel to elevate the space

How can this space be open and also tucked away? How can you create a retreat feeling, without it being tight and cramped? Consider the feel in a little studio, how the entire space is dedicated to one thing. What a luxury!

High or peaked ceilings

An ideal environment for you will have a lot of headroom in the space; soaring ceilings can help you to feel and stretch taller, breathe more deeply, and even ground firmly into Mountains pose on your mat. ;) You can also create the illusion of taller ceilings with texture or paint if this option isn’t available to you.

Wall racks

Get your things up and off the floor if you can. Hang things up. Create little nooks to put your weights or mats, or other luxe items you want around you. A Mountains Person is resourceful, so consider how you can creatively use the space while still elevating the vibe.

Good ventilation

When you’re working out and using the space, it’s very natural to get a little stinky. Having the ability to open a window and let a breeze in, or turn on a fan in the room on the ceiling or in the corner — or even crank up the AC and not have any issues — don’t overlook this need in your space.

Diffusers to infuse scent

Try playing with different scents to elicit a mood into the space and anchor you into your practice while working out. On top of the Mountain, the wind can blow and deliver so much information to us. Consider how you can elevate the environment by playing with scents that relax or invigorate you. You may want to have a designated spot for this or invest in a bougie tool like a chic diffuser and various essential oils. Maybe it’s just an odour eater room spray from Saje!

Rock climbing wall or Aerial set-up

Take inspiration from the literal mountain and build a climbing wall into your space. This is also a really great kid-friendly thing to consider for Mountains kids who need to get their energy out. Ensure you plan for safety while also considering how the literal change in elevation in your space may have deeper benefits than are initially obvious. Can any of your workout tools get you physically higher in the room? Chin-ups? Climbing ropes? A ladder? Aerial fabrics? SO Mountains!

Uplifting decor

This is deeply personal. What visuals do you want around you to give you a sense of feeling uplifted? Remember, we don’t want you to feel heavy, weighed down, or burdened, as this will be reflected in your body and health. What should decorate your walls to create that spaciousness and lift in you? Is it inspirational or informational phrases or imagery? Is it a wall treatment that you feel is elite?

Streamline textures like wood walls and ceilings

Consider how you can play with texture to create a seamless space. Does the floor travel up the wall? Do the walls and ceiling have the same material? Is everything the same colour? Is everything made of natural materials? Is everything stone?!
