Create a Valleys Human Design Environment in your Home Gym

If you have a designated space in your home where you work on your fitness — or if you’re wanting to carve out more space for this area in your life, this article is for you.

Depending on your body’s needs and your personal interests, there may be specific tools or workouts you like to use and participate in. While I can’t jump into your life to cover all those specifics (are you an avid rock climber? Love rowing? Peloton user?), these ideas are meant to get you thinking differently about the actual space you’re working out in.

Below, you’ll find ways to support your body based on its Environment Variable and how to set up the physical space you work out in based on the room you have available.

I repeat some of these themes across different Environments, but want to encourage you to think about your space in a way that brings in principles from your Human Design Environment. Let’s take a look at how to set up your DREAM Home Gym for your Human Design Environment:

Sound system in space

Don’t overlook this in your home gym! Splurge on your sound system — whether that means speakers built in to the space, or having the latest headphones available to wear on your body. Infusing the space with music or sounds may be the perfect kind of stimulation that takes your workout to a new place.

Open floor plan

I can’t emphasize this enough; you don’t want to trip in your space. With all the potential rugs, and mats, and gear, and weights — it’s easy to see how some things might clutter and build up. It’s essential your spaces have good flow and you’re able to seamlessly float through the space in a way that feels natural to you. You may get into set rhythms for a time, and it’s best to ensure your space accommodates that. Your only responsibility is to recognize where you’re at and what flow you’re in.

Technology integration - smart equipment

Tech can be very helpful in our modern age, and others are very sensitive to it and need to unplug. As a Valleys person, you’ll have to assess this for yourself as there will be times you don’t want any tech around you. I want to offer that having Smart Equipment, or robot vacuums grooming the space, or lights that turn on from a timer — whatever it is — tech can be a very helpful tool for you when it comes to locking in to your practice.

Prioritize floor mats and groundwork

Practices that make you stretch and feel grounded are great regulating techniques for Valleys people. Building a similar series into your workout practice is a great thing to try in your Human Design experiment. Ensure the floor is clean and of quality material. If you dislike your floors, lay out a beautiful rug. If you’re using a yoga mat, ensure it’s the right vibe for you. When you’re on the floor — ensure you’re comfortable and not distracted. Contemplate where you need to lay the groundwork in your life in order to go where you want to go.

Anaconda ropes or tire flipping

Get deep into your earth power and engage with its energy. I love the idea of whipping the anaconda ropes and imagining a great big charge running through you, maximizing your power. Tire flipping is a similar energy exertion to play with if you’re attracted to experimenting with grounding energy. Experiment with working out outside, using an earth gym or land gym to see how it makes you feel.

Create a vibe in the space

This can be executed through use of colour, texture, music, lighting — consider the space you’re working with and how you want to feel in that space. What do you need to remove or bring in in order to match the vibe and frequency you want the space to hold when you’re working out? Many great witches cast a spell on a space so it sets a tone that they can step into, accessing a mystical field of information. Imagine you’re infusing magic into the space and it helps you amp up your powers. Maybe you want an empowering environment, a refreshing environment, an expansive environment — set a vibe to honour your space before you use. Do this to engage it. Wake it up. Turn it on. Activate it. Ritualize it.

Keep the storage low

Instead of shelves up on the walls, we don’t want too much information cluttering your head. How can we use low credenzas, built-in benches of storage, or lower baskets to organize the space? A little Feng Shui trick I like to practice is using large open vessels — vases or woven baskets — and setting them in corners with less than desirable energy. They act as energy catchers, scooping up the harmful chi that gathers there. It’s best to keep these vessels empty so they can catch things. Based on how you use them, you may need to empty or replenish them. In a negative kitchen corner in my home, we have a lovely corner basket that always seems to catch the used kitchen rags. So we just gave the vessel that job. Now it helps us bring the soiled linens upstairs to the laundry, empty it, and clear the energy habitually. I love it.

Habitual cleaning

In the same way there is a ritualistic spell to consecrate a space and open up an energy to activate your practice, tending to and cleaning the space is just as important a ritual. You want this space to be treated as the holy site where you deeply care for yourself. How can we imbue that into the space more deeply? By having regular cleaning rituals, you’re caring for your equipment and the space that holds you while taking care of yourself. Caring for the space, in turn, cares for your spirit.
