How to set up a Mountains Deck, Patio, or Outdoor area
There are many ways to identify what type of spaces you resonate with. From a Human Design Environment perspective, looking at your Environment Colour will let you know what your Body vibes best with.
This can be translated to the people who fill the spaces you find yourself in, to your surroundings — from your location, to your nation, to your city, to your home — to how you hold your physical body in time and space.
These tips are for setting up an Outdoor Area that feels best for a Mountains Environment person. These ideas are meant to be a starting point for you to expand on when considering your Outdoor Living Space from a Mountains perspective. Always go with what feels good for you — and leave out the things that fall flat.
The ultimate getaway
How can you create a sanctuary or oasis right in your own backyard? Depending what size of space is available to you, it’s important for a Mountains person to have somewhere to go when they need to escape or take a breather. An outdoor hang out is the perfect option for a Mountains Person — when you need to escape, where will go you? It’s not enough to recognize you need a space to go to, but ensure that space to retreat to is available to you. Consider what would bring your outdoor area up a notch, and based on your style and preferences, how you might be able to elevate the aesthetic. Maybe it’s a giant relax-y lounge chair. Maybe it’s the perfect garden. You decide.
Essential Aesthetic
Mountains People do not need a lot of distractions; rather, having THEIR preferred essentials near by is what can transform a cool hangout into the sanctuary of their dreams. Consider what essentials you need for your outdoor space given the area you are in. Are mosquitoes really bad, where you need a citronella candle or even a screened in porch? Does your balcony get crazy hot during certain months where you need to create shade? Do you have so many cool birds in your area where a set of binoculars and bird watching book need to be handy or nearby? Maybe you love to do evening tarot readings on your outdoor coffee table — can there be a little basket with your lighter, incense, and fave deck available? Consider what your essentials are for your space, and build them into the space around you.
Up off the floor
When it comes to creating a vibey outdoor space, we often place piles of things on the ground — like furniture, pots with plants, junk, etc. Consider how you might be able to have your plants on little tables, elevated off the floor. Are you able to use a trellis for your plants or create an archway? Is there anyway vegetation can grow up the side of your house? Can those gardening tools be tucked away rather than kept in the corner on the floor? Consider the headspace around you and how you might be able to get creative with using the space above you to bring your eye upward when you’re outdoors. Get things up off the ground.
Unobstructed view
Ensure your outdoor space has a wide view of something, whether that’s the city or the yard or something else. Orient your furniture so it has a view, and isn’t set up in a way where you’re facing a wall or something else unappealing. If you have no appealing views available in your outdoor space, consider how you might set up something artificial — don’t be afraid to hang a picture outside if it’s protected from the elements! Consider how your plants might be able to create a view.
Breathing room
Wherever you’re setting up your outdoor space, it’s important for Mountains People to have breathing room around them. You want to ensure there is a good movement of chi flowing through your space. If things are too tucked together or you’re tripping over the furniture or decor, consider reducing how many items you’re using in your space. Clutter, or poorly situated furniture will create an inauspicious Mountains environment where your space isn’t helping you to calibrate. You don’t want to trip over things. Rather, you want to get away to breathe and flow, and the energy in the space should reflect that.
Space to move
Speaking of breathing room, it’s ideal to have enough space that you could stretch comfortably, whether that means stretching out for afternoon yoga on the deck, or stretch out and lounge your body after a long day in the sunroom or veranda. Ensure you have enough space to stretch out and unfurl.
