How to set up a Valleys Deck, Patio, or Outdoor area
There are many ways to identify what type of spaces you resonate with. From a Human Design Environment perspective, looking at your Environment Colour will let you know what your Body vibes best with.
This can be translated to the people who fill the spaces you find yourself in, to your surroundings — from your location, to your nation, to your city, to your home — to how you hold your physical body in time and space.
These tips are for setting up an Outdoor Area that feels best for a Valleys Environment person. These ideas are meant to be a starting point for you to expand on when considering your Outdoor Living Space from a Valleys perspective. Always go with what feels good for you — and leave out the things that fall flat.
Unplug or plug in
Your outdoor space should be an area where you can unplug from the world to discharge all that you take in, or it should be an ample connection site where the right people can tuck in with you for an intimate exchange. Consider what you might want around you when it comes to unplugging, and what you might want available when you want to connect with the ones who are important to you.
Tunes
As a Valleys Person, you’re going to need to be able to create a mood in your space depending how you feel! One of the best ways to do this is through music and sound. How might you be able to bring in music to the space around you? Whether that’s having instruments handy and available for jam sessions, or if you need to have that Sonos speaker charged and ready, consider what ways you might want to play with sound in your set up. Maybe listening to the quiet night air is just the thing you need! Either way, consider the acoustics in your outdoor space.
Openness and flow
All Landscape Environments (Mountains, Valleys and Shores), benefit from having good flow in the spaces around them, whether that is indoors our outdoors. Consider setting up your outdoor space so there is ample room to move around. You don’t want it to feel like things are piled on top of each other, as this will create stagnant chi that impedes your ability to unwind, unplug, and connect to the ones you care for while in your space.
Consider seating arrangements
If you’re a valleys person, there can be a really powerful connection you feel to the Earth — the greatest SOURCE of all life and power. Consider how it might feel to have comfy low seating available, whether that is a handy bolster to sit on, or a blanket to lay out when you want to lay on the ground. Valleys people tend to gravitate to the floor when they’re vibing and flowing, and you may just like to sit on the ground! If this is you, consider how you might be able to encourage this in your outdoor space. Low to the ground furniture can be really fun for Valleys People to play with.
Ritual space
What’s your ritual? Depending on your lifestyle and interests, consider how your personal rituals might be able to spill out to your outdoor space. For Valleys People, a lot of the nourishment is in the ritual itself. Maybe you and your partner love to have afternoon bevvies on the deck. Maybe Fridays get a lil lounge-y after 5PM and the tunes and latest magazines subscriptions come out to the sunroom. Maybe you love to listen to the night sounds rise as you read your book on the balcony in the evenings. Maybe Sundays are dedicated to brunch with your best gals. Consider how you might be able to build ritual into your outdoor space.
Play with pets
If you have a pet, playing with them outside can be very nourishing. Throwing a ball around the ground for your dog not only gets the chi moving in your space, activating that nourishing Earth energy we know you’re sensitive to, but it also builds in ritual and feel-good energy that you are sensitive to as a Valleys Person. Maybe you and your cat love to lay out in the sun together after the work day. Valleys People really can connect to animals, and if this is you, consider how your pet may add to the feel-good Valley energy of your outdoor space.
