How to set up your cooking space for a Valleys Human Design Environment
When I say cooking space, I’m talking about the literal kitchen in your home. But since the third Human Design Environment is also called Kitchens, I didn’t want to create something that read like “Set up your Kitchen for a Kitchen” — kind of thing.
When it comes to setting up the kitchen space in your home, you may not have the ability to so easily change up some of the room’s elements, like appliances, counters, etc.
In this series, I’m sharing ways to work with the space available to you, while keeping your Environment in mind. I’ll also share some ideal setups for the rare opportunity you may get to highly customize a space to suit you!
Consider your sound system
Cooking in the kitchen? You need some tunes on! Consider investing in a sound system for this space, whether it is luxuriously built into the space, or is the latest Sonos that can elegantly sit on your counter next to your Nespresso. Instead of blaring the music from your phone or computer in the other space, consider this as a sound space and how you might play with acoustics here.
Fancy soaps, dishes & furniture
What are your favourites brands? Consider how you can play with having the right names around you; the right brand names based on what you like or what is important to you. Maybe there is no way you would be caught dead using a boring coffee maker. You’re a chemex gal. You’re a Nespresso Queen. Maybe you’re all about that French Press! Hey — maybe you could care less about coffee. Whatever your thing is, whatever element in your kitchen really matters to you, consider having the right name brands selected.
Good flow —golden triangle
The good flow kitchen triangle is the placement and position of your fridge, sink and stove/oven. When these items are ideally oriented in a space, you can easily flow between them — cooking at the stove, chopping at the sink, storing in the fridge. My favourite magazine says it’s still the best way to design a kitchen!
Easy access to outdoors
Can you open a window above the sink, or have walk-out doors placed near the kitchen or dining space? Valleys People need good flow in their life, and sometimes a breeze is an ideal reset and flow adjustment.
Enough outlets
The fridge plugs in, the coffee maker plugs in, the microwave plugs in, maybe you have a little salt lamp somewhere — you likely have things you need to plug in in the kitchen, while having available outlets for the temporary things that need plugging in, like coffee grinders, mixers, toasters, etc. This is something that can be overlooked at times, but its important for you to be able to plug in your things and not have it be a big issue that requires a ton of extension cords or keeping in item in the wrong room.
A morning, noon, or evening ritual
Is it a morning tea? Is it a quickie at nooner? Is it a scroll through pinterest while making dinner to follow a recipe you like? Consider different check points in your day — the times you feed yourself — and how you can set yourself up in an aligned space for little tune ups.
