How to set up a Kitchens Living Room

The Living Room is a great example of a Kitchen. It’s where we tend to gather and relax or unwind from our day. In some cases, it’s also a crucial gathering place for the household.

However you use your living space depending on your lifestyle, consider how your awareness of your Human Design Environment Colour can help you play with your space’s energy.

Remember this is not an exhaustive list of every way you could set up your living room according to your Kitchens Environment — but meant to be a fun starting point to get you thinking differently about your space.

Get the coffee table

Don’t overlook the coffee table — and it would be great if you could give it a moment! Let it shine. Let it be spectacular. What’s your style? Could it be smoked glass and elegant? Is it solid wood and heavy bottomed to the floor? Do you love sleek and teak? Consider the materials you like and how you could let this piece shine.

Decorate the coffee table

K but what are you putting on that cute coffee table? Is it your awesome collection of books or magazines? Is it essential you have coasters? Is it a beautiful rotating vignette with fresh flowers and candles? Stylize the coffee table in the space as a focal point to bring the whole room together in the middle.

Play up the center of the space

This can very likely be the coffee table situation I’ve been harping on, but ensure the arrangement of your furniture is somewhat centered in the room. It’s okay if things are against the wall or in interesting spots, but you want to set up the room in a way where it all comes together in the middle. Imagine people gathering in this space; what are they around? If you put four people in the room, what’s between them?

Create another focal point

Another great focal point to play up if you have the opportunity is a spectacular light fixture in the middle of the room. Think STATEMENT piece or something that gets you talking. It’s great if this is hung above in the middle of the space but can totally show up somewhere else. What you want to remember is lighting can create a strong focal point — good for Kitchens.

Find the “it piece”

What is it — what’s the thing? Is it the Cloud Couch that every cool person has? Is it a super unique marble coffee table? I remember when everything was terrazzo and warm muted pinks for a moment. The Kitchens gals loved that one! Or maybe it’s that cool staghorn fern everyone has. Or those TVs that look like hanging artwork. Whatever the “it piece” is for you — prioritize it.

Rework the space

Develop a ritual of living into the space by constantly tweaking and adjusting your arrangement of treasures. Colour coordinate your bookshelf, then flip all the spines around, then arrange by author. Put that cool pillow on the pink couch, then oooo on the west wall bench, then oooo on the accent chair! Constantly move things around in here every time you tidy.

Apply your style

The Living Room is an important room for the Kitchens Person because it’s one of the most natural gathering sites in the home (obviously a kitchen or dining room is as well). If you don’t like the colour; paint it. If you hate the floor, find a cute rug. It’s important to really express yourself in this space.
