How to set up a Shores Altar & Ceremony Space

What is a ceremony space? Considering whether you’re a Caves, Markets, Kitchens, Mountains, Valleys, or Shores Environment, can help you dedicate a space with playful intention, and conscious awareness.

Having a spot in your home that allows you to gather your spirits and focus your energy is often called an altar, but these spaces for your private rituals can be called anything your heart desires.

Maybe your ceremony space is your bedside table. Maybe it’s the study. Maybe it’s your yoga room, or the closet you tuck your ritual tools away in.

Try these things in your Shores Environment, and build a vibey ceremony site that resonates with you.

Bring in the water element

One of the most auspicious elements for the Shores person is their relationship to water. Bring in a small fountain, fish tank or picture/painting of water to have in your ceremony space or placed on/above your altar.

Tidy before you practice anything

Before you settle in for any type of ritual, transform the space by clearing it. Tidy up, sprinkle your favourite cleansing oils through the space or do a sweeping smoke cleansing ritual. Transform the energy in your space to bring it into a neutral territory, and then consider filling it with the energy you want to embody. You can do this through sounds, lighting, scents, etc.

Consider the timing of your rituals

You may want to start your day with the sunrise in front of your altar, or you may want to wind down the day, standing in the sunset, or letting the sun’s orangey glow spill onto your sacred space. Consider when you may want to perform your practice, and consider how you may want to set up your space to the morning or evening light fills the space.

Bring in a plant

Plants transform through growth, and are a great way to check in with yourself and what wellness rituals are needed. Take care of the health of your plant upon your altar as part of your check-in rituals. When a plant is placed in the south east sector of your home, or on the designated south east sector in your ceremony space/altar, this activates your asset wealth through sources of unearned income. Value around you in your life will increase when this is cared for. Should it die, replace it.

Bow to diverse cultures

Whatever your cultural background is, consider connecting with it deeply, and also opening yourself up to the culture of the place around you. Wherever you are located in the world, educate yourself on the spiritual practices of that land and people, and bow and give reverence to these teachings. Shores people are very enriched by dynamic cultural backgrounds as this brings perspective to their life.

Ritual idea: elevated bath

Though some Shores people may not have embraced to their connection to water, the reason they have a special connection to it is that the world around them is very dense. By submerging the body in water, they allow the body to experience a different density that can deeply restore the system. You do not need to live on the lake or ocean to access this. Consider developing a luxurious and enriching bath-time ritual. Bring in all your potions, your dim lighting, your aftercare lotions, face masks and oils, and shut out the world to change the density of your body, giving everything away to the water. Consider using water-safe crystals that are non-soluable in the water to create a healing matrix. Polished quartz varieties like Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz or Amethyst are my recommendations. NOTE: before you do this, research, as not all stones are safe for water.

Build the classic Shores altar

To connect deeply to your environment, set out a traditional altar by finding a small space that you can treat with great care and respect. Consider placing it in front of a window with a view, and determine whether you feel good about AM or PM rituals. Ensure the entire energy of your sacred space is filled with the light, sound, and vibe that makes your spirit sing. Consider ingesting plant material to enhance your state of mind, and muse with a journal or favourite text/book that is filled with information you are bowing to, like a bible, a favourite book, or an occult text. You may wish to design a portable altar with a tray or cloth, plus your sacred materials, and bring the set up out onto the land in a special place. Seek inspiration from the literal shore by placing water images, water creatures, a fountain, or representations of your aspirations, around your altar. Keep your divination tools ready for use nearby, such as oracle or tarot cards, lithomancy kits, tea leaves, or a crystal ball. Enjoy your ceremony.
